The National Testing Agency will release the notification for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) on December 2. Medical aspirants seeking admission in undergraduate medical courses in the country will have to fill the NEET application form. This year all seats offered in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) will also be filled based on the NEET scores.
Early in October, the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr Harsh Vardhan, announced that NEET will serve as the only entrance test for MBBS/BDS admission in the country. The entrance exam is scheduled to be conducted in pen and paper-based mode on May 3, 2020. Eligible candidates will have to fill the application form of NEET on or before December 31.
In order to apply, NEET aspirants will have to pay the prescribed application fee. General category candidates will have to pay Rs 1,400 and SC/ST/PWD (or, Scheduled Castes and Tribes and the differently-abled) and transgender candidates will have to pay Rs 750.
Changes in NEET registration To mitigate the impersonation issues and cheating in NEET registrations, the authority has introduced several changes that will minimise the chances of cheating. The Times of India reported that the applicants will be required to declare their roll numbers for the Class 10 and 12 board exams at the time of filling the form. A lot of candidates appearing for the Class 12 board examination will get their roll numbers after the registration process concludes. For such candidates, a correction window facility will be provided, informed an official quoted by TOI.
The report further said that candidates will have to upload a live photo and an identity proof, preferably Aadhaar card. The NTA is awaiting approval from the Ministry of Information Technology to add Aadhaar verification of examinees as an additional security measure. The photographs uploaded at the time of registration will be matched with a real-time picture clicked at the exam centres.
Clarity on the NEET 2020 Along with the start of the application process, NTA will also release the information brochure of NEET 2020. The information brochure will bear clear details and changes (if any) in the upcoming medical entrance exam. The notification released by NTA will include details on the important events like availability of admit card, application fee, the timing of exam and exam pattern.
Last year, 15,19,375 candidates registered for NEET and 14,10,754 appeared for the examination. Through NEET 2020, admission to 78,335 MBBS, 26,949, 52,720 AYUSH seats will be filled.
