Hi friends, I was patiently going through the posts/blogs given by both KVPY and jee rankers(I guess there are few who cracked both). The information shared by them has been very much insightful. I would like to take some key points that are highlighted by others while adding my views based on the analysis of these tests.
1-I would like to see students understand the point that there is the difference in expectation for KVPY and jee. KVPY does not thrust so much on numerically challenging questions as that of advanced. But in terms of concept twisters you will find KVPY on par with advanced.
2- Focus of KVPY across subjects is to assess the conceptual clarity and depth of subject knowledge (we have to keep in mind that KVPY has bio too) where as JEE Advanced focuses on the numerical solving ability of students on core maths, physics and chemistry.
3- Very few students crack both since the expectation of students opting for the tests too varies.
4- Since KVPY comes in November some students would have not really taken off their full fledged JEE preparation. So, we see kids who may not do well in KVPY still gear up in terms of efforts to really do well in JEE.
5- Climbing a mountain is tough, crossing a river is also tough. I would say it’s one such scenario.
On the other hand if you ask me just question by question comparison, writing JEE Advanced paper in Nov is going to be a really tough affair( I am referring to regular students) . If that being the sort of comparison, I would probably slightly tilt towards JEE!!
