NIT Tiruchirappalli will soon inaugurate its 190-crore worth Centre of Dynamic Excellence(CoDE). The one-of-a-kind lab which is built in partnership with Siemens India, will be inaugurated by the Minister for Human Resource Development, Prakash Javadekar on Friday at the college campus.

In a press meet held in Chennai to announce the institute’s future plans, Dr Mini Shaji Thomas, Director of NIT, Tiruchirappalli, said that the center is aimed at providing quality education to its students and to upscale the college ranking, “Right now we are ranked among the top 11 engineering colleges in the country. But as per the Times Higher Education World ranking 2019, NIT Tiruchirappalli is just at 1000. With the establishment of this center, we aim to be in the list of top 500 universities in the world,” says Dr Mini, who chairs the Strategic Planning Group of the Institute as well.

To kickstart the ongoing efforts, the HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar will launch the first such CoDE.  The centre is set-up at an estimated cost of Rs. 190 crores, in which 90% of the fund was received as a grant from Siemens in kind and 10% was funded by NIT, Tiruchirappalli.

“In terms of its facilities, the CoDE will consist of 12 labs in niche areas like the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Sustainable and renewable energy. We want to turn the CoDE into a skilling centre where students and faculties from across the country can use its facilities,” adds Dr Mini.

Besides skill development courses, the Centre will also offer consultancy and R&D services to industries. Along with this, various learning tracks designed by Siemens will be installed at the college for training engineering, polytechnic and ITI students of other colleges as well, “Tiruchirappalli, being a manufacturing hub, employees from SMEs and other smaller players can train at the centre. Various stakeholders have already shown interest and we are in talks with heads of premium engineering colleges in the state to make our facilities more accessible to them,” Dr Mini says.
